Shangri-La Hotel, Chiang Mai, newly opened in December 2007, is a deluxe city resort whose unique but exquisite style and design is inspired by its location in Northern Thailand. The hotel that stands in the midst of a quiet and magnificent landscape, offers a tranquil but modern theme accentuated by a large free-form swimming pool that sits in the midst of mature plants such as frangipani, bamboo, ginger and lotus ponds, making the guests’ stay truly a pleasant and relaxed experience. Built with a liberal supply of teak along with touches of Thai architecture and highly based on strict Shangri-La standards and a contemporary style, Shangri-La Hotel, Chiang Mai sets a new trend for luxury hotels in the region. Each open space is brilliantly ornamented with local artifacts, materials and rich fabrics to bring out the rich culture of the locality in which the hotel is situated.
Burj al-Arab
Posted by Karl on Aug 19, 2009

Burj al-Arab architecture is by far, one of the finest designs to grace modern civilization. Its luxurious interiors are covered in vulgar shades of violet, green, red and yellow. A quick scan of the area would give one a feeling of being transported back in the days when Sultans still governed the land exclusively, before the West had the chance to influence Islamic traditions. Staying a little longer in Burj al-Arab will make any foreigner expect exotic belly dancers to grace their way what with the extravagant adorns of velvet in rich tropical colors surrounding them with their every step. It is not however, the rich interiors of the iconic Burj al-Arab that enchants its clients to shell out $20,000 in one night with ease, (although such luxury from the inside helps) but the truly unique architectural concept that was implemented to establish the grand Arab hotel.
Fab Views From Your Tokyo Hotel Room
Posted by Marlon on Jul 23, 2009
I read in a guidebook once that Tokyo was like having a date with someone unattractive - it looks much better in the dark! And although there are many areas which are undoubtedly beautiful (like the gardens, the Imperial palace and temples), the city in the daytime can be a concrete jungle in multiple shades of gray.
At night, however, it is an entirely different story as Tokyo can light up like no other city in the world. And the higher up you are, the better the view. When choosing a hotel in Tokyo it pays to do your research and find a room with a great view. Think Scarlett Johannson in Lost in Translation (she stayed at the Park Hyatt). There are a number of hotels in Tokyo which offer great views, whether what you are looking for is a neon-lit city view, a serene garden view, Mount Fuji or a picturesque temple.
The Ritz-Carlton (pictured above) is one luxury hotel in Tokyo’s Minato-ku area with stellar views of Tokyo Tower, as is the Conrad, which has panoramic views over the stylish Ginza area. If you have the younger family members with you though, they might prefer the Hilton hotel in Tokyo Bay, which have lovely views of what else- Tokyo Disneyland!

Carcosa Seri Negara - Kuala Lumpur
Posted by Marlon on Jan 25, 2009
This place is totally different from the rest of the modern hotels in Kuala Lumpur mainly because of the low key and construction that is set near the city center. Set amidst rolling hills and overlooking a lake and beautiful gardens is the two mansion complex that is the Carcosa Seri Negara, considered to be one of Malaysia’s luxury hotels with 13 Victorian Style suites named after Malaysia’s states that are decorated in different styles according to the local art and culture of the area. The house has been restored using the best available materials that were authentic to it’s 1904 building that has it become one of the most hidden yet prestigious places to stay in Kulala Lumpur. A short taxi hop from the major city it allows people to jog around in leisure and peace and have their tea amidst the rustle of trees and the singing of birds.
From the wonderful Gulai House, where guests can dine in utter pleasure, to the Drawing Doom that entices one during tea time to rest and relax. The Carcosa Seri Negara is a beacon to those wary souls who want something different something not made of cinder block and pre-fabricated units, something more of home.
Friday’s Boracay
Posted by Karl on Dec 31, 2008
Sounds repetitive but Boracay Island in the Philippines is considered to be one of the most beautiful beaches in the whole of Asia. Though always booked and full of tourist, it is the premier spot for the Philippine’s rich and famous (if they haven’t bought their own islands yet) and is the place to be during summer in the country. Rated Triple AAA, it sits on the secluded tip of the island giving it more privacy and seclusion from the busy beaches just beyond the bend. With 40 Filipino native-styled cottages that range from deluxe/premier rooms to more opulent suites with built-in 40″ LCD TV’s. As expected, the resort is chock full of amenities with the addition of an electronic safe in every room for those important documents allowing you to lounge around end enjoy the tropical paradise in security and peace.
